About RR Nets

How I got started (if you really wanted to read more...)...

I learned to fly fish at a very young age where the key lesson, taught by my Dad, was patience. Patience to wait for the fish. Patience to learn how to properly cast. Patience to not get frustrated when I couldn’t untangle the mess of a bird’s nest I had just created with my fly line. This lesson has seeped through to many other areas of my life. Patience, a life long lesson, is high on the list of skills in building quality wood landing nets.

I’ve always had an interest in building things, but an interest in woodworking came in college.  It started with making wood handled knives, and that gradually transferred to making furniture and landing nets.  With landing nets, I got tired of looking at my cheap, foreign made wooden net, so I attempted making one for myself. After countless hours of watching videos on bent lamination, reading articles, and drawing inspiration from other net makers, knife makers, furniture makers, and even guitar makers, I was able to learn how to make a wood landing net. The first net came out great and I still use it today (+8 years later)!

To get an understanding of why these nets are so special, it is important to realize the time investment involved. On average, each net takes between 15 and 25 hours to complete depending on size and complexity. I use many different wood species, both domestic and exotic, and can even incorporate a piece that has special meaning to you for the handle.

Thank you for visiting this site, and I hope to begin working with you on your very own custom wood landing net soon!

Tight lines and loaded nets,
