Care and Warranty
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR NET:
Below are a few helpful hints on how to keep your Raging River Net safe and sound for years to come.
Keep out of direct sunlight – Avoid storing your wood landing net in direct sunlight for extended periods of time as the sun can bleach the wood and change the finish. Although I use the best materials and finishes available, nature has a way of wreaking havoc, given time and opportunity.
Store in cool, dry places – Leaving your net in very hot areas (like in a hot car on a sizzling summer day) for long periods of time could soften the finish and adhesives. This may lead to creep of the net shape. Avoid storing the net in hot, damp places. To be honest, I have never observed this as a problem with my own nets, but it is best to be prudent.
Do not keep submerged in water – Even though your wood landing net is meant to be used in water, it is best to keep the net out of the water if at all possible. Occasional dips won’t harm the net, but leaving it submerged for prolonged periods of time could harm the finish and frame itself. Just make sure to air dry the net after use. As odd as it sounds, keep your net out of the water until ready to use.
Touch-up – After regular use, you may notice the wood looking a bit “thirsty,” or dry. The best way to touch up these areas is to wipe on a bit of Danish oil, (available at any home center), or Tru-Oil. Sand lightly with 400 grit to remove surface grime/wax, then apply the finish (it may take a few coats). Paste wax (carnauba is my recommendation) can also be used for touching up problem areas. A once-over of your net looking for areas like this each year will help protect the wood for the coming years. Keep in mind, these nets are still made of wood. From time to time, depending on how heavily they are used, they do require some love to keep them maintained.
