Yes. And no. It all depends on how you treat your equipment. The same question could be asked of bamboo fly-rods, yet we have seen they can stand the test of time because of how well they are taken care of. Obviously, if you slam a piece of wood on a hard surface, it has the chance of denting. The very first net I built, I am still using (circa 2016), and it shows no sign of slowing down! I have a few tips and tricks to keep your wood fishing net in top condition with the ability to last many years here.
These nets are one of a kind. They take hours of work and love to perfect (most are 15 -25 hours or more depending on complexity). Because of the time involved, they aren’t your typical $50 department store special. I have recently adjusted my pricing to reflect an easier way to understand the cost. For a fully custom Raging River Net, expect to spend roughly $450 to $650 (plus shipping) depending on hoop size, handle size, and additional features like custom inlay work. A $200 deposit is required to start work on a net, and final payment due before net is shipped. These are high quality heirloom pieces that are also meant to be used! If you would like to get a list of net and inlay prices, please email me below:
To order, simply contact me via email (email here) and we can get the ball rolling! Through email, we will determine what size/shape net hoop you are looking for, handle length, handle material, hoop material, general color scheme (light/medium/dark), and any other features you would like on the net. If easier, we can also set up a time to talk via phone. You can choose as many details as you want, or leave some of the options up to me. I am open to what you want, and would love to work with you and your ideas.
Sometimes, I also have a few nets for sale (at a slightly discounted price) that aren’t part of a custom order. These, if available, will be shown here:
It all depends on how much work I have at the time, and the size/complexity of the net you would like me to create. Lead time has varied from 3 weeks, to 3 months. Once I start on your custom landing net, it will take approximately 6-8 weeks for it to be ready to ship. Also, please understand that net making is not my day job, just a small business done in the off time. I also have a growing family, and they will always take priority.
Almost. But no.🙂
Please read this page for instructions on proper care:
Great question, and one that can't be answered simply in this FAQ. See this page for a somewhat longer explanation on how I build these nets:
Of course! Below is an image of the various sizes and shapes I make. Handle lengths are suggested, and can be changed to what you prefer.
