#028 - Stabilized Heavy Burl Maple

SOLD: This is something new for me – stabilization! The stabilization process involves infusing a plastic resin in the wood. When cured under heat, it turns into a more heat/moisture/movement/dent resistant material. This is especially advantageous for these nets which are constantly being dipped into water to net fish (I hope!) and thrown in the back of our fishing rigs.

The maple used in this net was originally not usable for a net handle because it was a few weeks shy of being completely rotten. The wood was punky, and very porous – stabilizing fixed those issues making the handle rock hard. Take a close look at the figure in this one! Also included is a wood lanyard handle bead that matches the handle.
