Camp - Patchwork

My friend picked out an outstanding piece of curly figured walnut for this handle. Only problem was that it was too short – 6 to 8 inches too short! My challenge was to come up with a way to extend the handle without making it look dumb. You tell me… It looks pretty stellar (in my extremely humble opinion, of course)! The stabilized walnut was joined to what a friend suggested looked like a quilt of stabilized burl and curly maple pieces. Keep in mind, these joints are not straight lines. Straight is too easy, apparently. I have too much time on my hands, apparently. No, no… These are joined with matching compound curves, sometimes compound reverse curves. Not an easy task, but well worth it in the end. Each joint has a layer of bubinga and wenge to add contrast.

This net just has so much going on. From the curly and feather-like figure in the walnut, to the complex joints in the burl maple, it’s one that I am very proud of.
